We’ve all heard that eating before bed isn’t good for your health or weight. You’ve probably heard people say things like; “you shouldn’t eat before bed”, “don’t eat past 7 pm” or “no carbs after lunch.” What if we told you that you should eat a snack before bed and that fat and carb snacks promote better sleep?
According to some dietitians, there are 5 main reasons that you should eat before bed.
Bed time snacks:
- Promote weight loss
- Helps you fall asleep faster and stay asleep longer
- Boosts your metabolism while you are sleeping
- Stabilizes your blood sugars
- Gives your body and mind more energy for the next day
Now, we’re not saying that you should eat a piece of triple chocolate cake, a fudge Sunday or load up on fast food before bed (although we won’t judge you if you do). However, it is good for your body and sleep health to go ahead and eat a fat or carb snack prior to hitting the hay. Whether it be apples and peanut butter, an avocado or any other food of choice, you can rest assured that a great night’s sleep lies ahead. And don’t fret if you get crumbs on the bed…just unzip your Yogabed’s cover, throw it in the wash and you’ll be sleeping clean in no time!
